Artificial turf is an incredible option if you’re looking for a beautiful, low-maintenance lawn. However, it can still get messy and dirty whether it’s from pets, kids or nature. The great news is that cleaning artificial grass is easy. Here are some simple tips to help you keep your Luxe Turf looking great.
Rinse regularly
One of the easiest ways to keep your artificial turf looking great is by giving it a regular rinse. Using your garden hose you can spray down your turf once a week to remove any dust, dirt and other debris that’s sitting on the surface. Giving the turf a regular rinse will help to keep it looking fresh and feeling great underfoot.
Remove pet waste promptly
If you have pets, you’ll need to remove any waste left on your artificial turf. The first step is to remove any solid waste using a scoop or plastic bag. Once this has been removed, you can hose down the affected area. For more intense cleaning you can also use a mix of equal parts water and vinegar to neutralise any odours.
Remove debris
Your turf can look messy if it’s covered with leaves, sticks and other debris. We recommend using a leaf blower or plastic rake to remove debris, or even a stiff-bristled brush. It’s a good idea to remove debris as soon as possible to ensure it doesn’t become more difficult to clean later if it gets embedded in the fibres of your artificial turf.
Tackle tough stains
We understand that accidents happen and you may end up with a stain on your Luxe Turf. The good news is that artificial grass is stain-resistant, so you shouldn’t have a hard time removing spills.
For more serious spills like petrol or oil, clean up as much as possible before using mineral turpentine to remove the oily substance. Once this is applied, hose it off thoroughly. If you have something sticky on your artificial grass, like chewing gum, you can apply ice cubes so the gum hardens, then simply scrape it off. If it’s stubborn, try olive oil and then a dry cloth.
Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do for burns, so it’s best to keep naked flames, cigarettes, and anything that could start a fire away from your artificial grass. If you have a burn mark on your artificial grass, call us so we can repair it for you.
Remove bacteria
Bacteria build-up is generally not a problem with artificial grass if you clean and maintain it regularly. However, if you suspect bacteria are present, you can use a natural home remedy to prevent it from spreading. Simply mix vinegar and water in a bottle and spray it on the affected area to clean any infected spots.
Prevent mould and mildew
If laid professionally, you shouldn’t have any issues with mould and mildew. To prevent mould it’s essential to ensure your artificial turf has proper drainage. If mould occurs, it can be cleaned with water and vinegar or a special artificial turf cleaner.
